Andrew Johnson - Report on Pi Tracker Air Traffic/Chemtrail Monitoring Project Apr/May 2014

Here are the details of Andrew Johnson's extensive report based on data gathered from his Pi Tracker Air Traffic/Chemtrail Monitoring Project:

A Systematic Attempt to Measure Air Traffic Levels and Count Persistent Jet Trails/Chemtrails Using a Raspberry Pi-Based Computer Network

"After about 9-10 months of running 1 or more "trackers", I have compiled this report to explain what was done and what the results, so far, were. Abstract
This research used a collection of software and hardware to receive and decode ADS-B messages from aircraft as well as photograph the sky at 1-minute intervals. The software ran on several Raspberry Pi computers stationed at up to 6 different locations in the UK . The objective was to count the number of aircraft detected at a given location and compare these counts, both on an hourly and a daily basis, when the skies were clear enough to have seen persistent jet trails or “chemtrails”. Time-stamped time-lapse videos were generated for images taken between sunrise and sunset each day. These were inspected to count the number of trails observed in each 30-min period of daylight. Trail counts and aircraft counts were collated into a Microsoft Access Database. SQL Queries were then developed to allow comparison of aircraft counts during periods when trails were observed and clear periods when no trails were observed.

Conclusions
Detected Air Traffic Levels and Trailing
From all the data gathered so far, it seems there is no large difference in “ADS-B detectable” aircraft on days of high trailing than there are on days of no trailing. The data here does not establish a clear link between levels of aircraft and levels of trailing. Looking at some figures in isolation, it could be argued that there is a lower amount of aircraft on days of trailing. This result, therefore would tend to disprove a general statement that trailing is seen because of increased levels of air traffic – if that is the case, then it is air traffic which is not detectable in the same way as “regular” air traffic.

Perhaps a better detector is needed, although this is unlikely – as a range of 20 miles should be sufficient to “detect planes and see trails” with this sort of equipment. For example, if one examines the charts, most of them have an unbroken line of travel for the planes, which means enough of the messages were picked up, while the plane was in range, to plot the path of the plane.

Identification of Flights Leaving Trails and Formation of Grids
It was sometimes quite difficult to identify which flights left trails – perhaps because only a maximum of about 50% of the flights could have their latitude and longitude decoded. Without this information, it was impossible to know if the flight was precisely overhead, or whether it was 100 miles away. The “percentage located” figure showed no appreciable variation between days of trailing and no trailing.

The study from 25 Nov 2013 of the WA6 tracker shows that it is was not possible, using ADS-B data, to identify all of the flights which made the grids. Though, looking at some of the charts, the potential for grids to form can be seen, these were not seen “in the right place” and not enough flights were detected to prove, from this data, that civilian air traffic is responsible for forming these grids. So they remain a mystery.

A study of data from the DE72 tracker seemed also to show that flights that were travelling in a NorthóSouth Direction were rarely seen on charts – and if they were, it was over the far west of Derby – about 20 miles from where the tracker was sighted. Further attempts at identifying “trailing flights” could be undertaken, even with the existing data.

Days of Trails or No Trails?
No obvious reason could be observed why trails were seen on some days and not others. Again, taking the 25 Nov 2013 time-lapse video, it can easily be seen that there are persistent and non-persistent trails appearing in the same periods of time and the same part of the sky. So this remains unexplained.

Weather Anomalies
The tracker with the best view did seem to observe some kind of weather anomalies on some days – why would cloud formations remain in the same place above the ground, whilst “other weather” drifts past? Why would this happen the clouds both at lower and higher altitudes? What is the cause of linear weather fronts?

Announcing "PiSkyTracker"



Andrew Johnson has put together this brilliant kit for monitoring air traffic, specifically in relation to the Chemtrail phenomenon. Well worth a look. Here are the details pasted from his YouTube page and the video above gives a demonstration of its effectiveness.

This is to announce the availability of a "kit" to enable people to track and log aircraft flying over their location using a fairly cheap combination of electronics.

To make effective use of the kit, you will need a PC or Mac for initial set up and an internet connection to make best use of the main features. Following initial set-up, the kit can run autonomously using only a little electricity.
It will work anywhere in the world -- you just need the correct power supply for your country.

Background
For some years now, it has been possible to track aircraft flying over your location using such devices as the AirNav Radarbox and the SBS-1, but these have been quite expensive -- costing as much or more than a Laptop PC, which is needed to view the results.

Also online, sites such as www.FlightRadar24.com, Flight Aware and Virtual Radar offer tracking and aircraft identification features, though can be slow to update and somewhat cumbersome to use. Similarly, there are Android and iPhone Apps which interface to these online services and allow you, for example, to identify flights by holding up your phone in the direction of a plane in the sky. Of course, not everyone has an iPhone or Android phone...

The hardware solutions, like the AirNav box, allow flights to be logged but their logging features are not very flexible. For example, with the AirNav box (2010 version of the software), all the messages received and decoded by the box can be saved to log files -- but in a day, 600,000 messages may be received from all the aircraft that are detected, resulting in large log files, which need to be processed by special software to extract useful information. Additionally, for continuous 24/7 logging, things like the AirNav box "tie up" a PC or laptop which may be needed for other uses.

The Website and Phone App solutions don't have logging features of any great sophistication, so there is something needed to allow this logging and counting of aircraft automatically.
This is where PiSkytracker comes in to the picture.
Main Features

Charting parameters can be set so that planes within a certain range are drawn on charts which are created every few minutes or every hour. Charting can be set so that only planes above a certain altitude are tracked on the chart. This therefore logs the paths of aircraft over your location (which is shown in the centre of the chart).

All this data is saved on a standard SD Card in formats which can be easily read and How does it Work?

The whole system relies on the fact that many aircraft are now transmitting ADS-B (Automatic Dependent Surveillance -- Broadcast) messages when in flight. These messages contain the following information
• A code number identifying the aircraft
• Flight Number
• Altitude
• Position (Latitude/Longitude)
• Speed
• Heading


(This page has a good explanation: http://planefinder.net/about/ads-b-how-planefinder-works/) The tracker simply receives and decodes these messages -- then software can be used to process the messages in any way desired. For example, you can count the number of aircraft which are detected in a given period, within a certain range and above a certain altitude or between certain altitudes.

Environmental and Weather Modification

I recently discussed how I could use my musical work in a more positive light.
Well here is my first outing!
I recently produced and recorded a cover version of Kate Bush's classic song "Cloudbusting", in order to create a short video highlighting some basic issues regarding environmental and weather modification. The original tune addressed the work of the groundbreaking scientist and psychologist Wilhelm Reich. In this regard, I felt the song fitted the wider subject perfectly.

Walking In A Winter Chemtrail-land!

This is what greeted me this morning (Saturday 10th December, 2011 - 7.20am onward). The first real winter morning in the UK this time of year. I'd just finished a night shift and got busily snapping away on my mobile. The resolution is pretty crap, but the colours and scale are representative of what I witnessed. In every direction, north to south, east to west... for nearly an hour! A huge grid of trails that coloured the sky like oil in water. Some were straight and ran parallel to each other, others snaked all over the shop!

Strangely, I didn't witness any being formed. To my best recollection, they were all there when I left work and pretty much remained as is (apart from a very minor amount of separation and drifting) for roughly the next hour. As per norm, the whole thing gradually coalesced into a milky-grey mess.

The Un-Natural War - Part One: Chemtrails




   Recently, I read an amusing comment by someone on the net: “Mr Blue Sky, please tell us why you had to hide away for so long?… You couldn’t get through all the Chemtrails!”
  
   A week or so ago, I had the fortune of noticing something that I thought was really quite bizarre! I was approaching the latter hours of a nightshift, when I decided to go outside and have a smoke. It was just gone dawn and it was a gorgeous morning. The sky was perfectly blue; not a cloud in sight. The weather forecast had predicted a perfectly clear and sunny day. Indeed, the forecast maps showed no cloud cover, all day, for the whole day. Whilst dragging away to the detriment of my health, I noticed a plane going over. The plane was leaving a vapour trail in it’s wake. I thought to myself: “lucky buggers, probably off to the Caribbean!”. I knew they were departing because the jet was travelling away from the direction of Birmingham Airport (which is about 45 minutes away from where I live).



  I went back inside, but kept an eye on it through the windows. Almost an hour passed by and the trail was still very prominent in the sky. I decided to go back out (have another smoke!) and take a picture of it with my phone. Over the following hours, I left work and had a few morning jobs to do. I continued to notice a lattice of trails build up, criss-crossing the sky and continued to snap them on my phone. By mid afternoon, the sky was hazy and the sun obscured by wispy clouds, yet the weather forecast still maintained that the sky was perfectly clear!

   Anybody who knows anything, will have heard the debate over Chemtrails. I’ve taken an interest in the subject, yet I’ve always found it hard to find the definitive proof of something untoward. My gut tells me that something is amiss though. I’ve visited various sources in the past and only ever really found literary articles that support the mainstream “Contrails” view (harmless vapour trails produced in the wake of a plane’s engines, when flying through specific atmospheric conditions), whilst mainly photographs and videos (with some scientific theories) supporting the idea of Chemtrails. This is the theory that some vapour trails appear abnormal next to standard Contrails and that, with a possible combination of foreign chemicals, these trails are being created to the detriment of people’s health.

   For the “mainstream” view, I did the usual Wikipedia, National Geographic, New Science reading and came across an article from Scientific American called: “Why Do Jets Leave A White Trail In The Sky?” by Jenn Stroud Rossmann, an assistant professor of engineering at Harvey Mudd College. The webpage that hosted the article was interesting because it served as a two-halved snapshot of the whole debate. The main piece threw up the standard scientific explanations as to how the trails being formed are harmless Contrails. This article served the, almost exclusive, purpose of debunking the Chemtrail theory. Below is a section from the article:

   “Jets leave white trails, or contrails, in their wakes for the same reason you can sometimes see your breath. The hot, humid exhaust from jet engines mixes with the atmosphere, which at high altitude is of much lower vapour pressure and temperature than the exhaust gas. The water vapour contained in the jet exhaust condenses and may freeze, and this mixing process forms a cloud very similar to the one your hot breath makes on a cold day. Jet engine exhaust contains carbon dioxide, oxides of sulphur and nitrogen, unburned fuel, soot and metal particles, as well as water vapour. The soot provides condensation sites for the water vapour. Any particles present in the air provide additional sites. Depending on a plane’s altitude, and the temperature and humidity of the atmosphere, contrails may vary in their thickness, extent and duration.”

   The article continued by citing wing tipping, crow instability, wind currents, temperature layers and sublimation to explain some of the more unusual looking trails.

   Following this, were some lively and researched comments from readers, exploring the possibility of Chemtrails. Various individuals debated scientific accuracy, the amount of years that trails have been visible for (some photographs from the 50s and 60s were shown) , the increased amount today (countered by increase in air traffic), lingering trails, cruising altitudes and a Congressional Bill that was once introduced that defined Chemtrails as “exotic weapons“. They discussed the possibility of atmospheric seeding, population reduction and other ideas. It seems that the Chemtrails debate, in these comments, boiled down to a few key aspects:
  • If it is from turbulence, in combination with supersaturated conditions, wouldn’t there also be a turbulence trail from the tail of the plane? Vapour generated should be more spread out along the wings instead of coming just from the engines.
  • When spraying a substance, the trail starts out at the point of emission. Usually narrower, but the difference is quite noticeable.
  • The absence of a gap between the plane and the trails left behind. There is a gap with contrails because the exhaust vapours, that cause contrails, takes a fraction of time to freeze. Would altitude, pressure and temperature effect the gap with a Chemtrail being sprayed behind a plane?
   The truth is, I’m no scientist! Looking into it, I have to use my limited knowledge to way up the points of view on offer. My hypothesis for finding some slightly tangible proof would be this:
You have a plane producing contrails (with a gap) from the engines; under appropriate atmospheric conditions. This plane, however, is producing a secondary trail (without a gap). Atmospheric conditions would dictate that any trail from the same plane would behave in the same manner. From this, you could probably guess accurately that you were witnessing a secondary Chemtrail. I think if there is any real research to be done in this field, these are the kind of things that people need to be looking for.

   There are many sites, where you can view photographs and read articles from both sides of the fence.    In my own opinion, I do think there is something to the theory. There may not be much evidence, but the behaviour of the phenomenon can be very bizarre at times. A gut reaction is, obviously, not the basis of my opinion though. Consider this: even if you don’t subscribe to the idea of Chemtrails, the existence of “harmless” Contrails is still cause for concern. Contrails are effectively man made clouds. Shouldn’t nature be the only thing responsible for this act? As a species, we really don’t help ourselves, sometimes, by carrying out acts of “Nature Modification”. For this reason alone, I think we should keep an eye on it. And, if Chemtrails really do exist, isn’t that even more reason to be vigilant?

   Also, there has been much research done into the existence of hidden agendas and programs that are not to the benefit of mankind. Various governments and industries have never had any qualms about exposing huge numbers of the population to things like: DDTs, Agent Orange, Sarin Gas, depleted Uranium munitions, Anthrax, toxic flu vaccinations, water fluoridisation, Aspartame in food and drink, mood stabilisers…. The list is endless.

If Chemtrails are real, it’s only the tip of the iceberg…
